Announcing the Abbott Fellowship in Advanced Diabetes Technologies
The UC San Diego Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is pleased to announce the Abbott Fellowship in Advanced Diabetes Technologies, a new educational pathway within our Endocrinology Fellowship Program.
This innovative pathway provides second-year endocrinology fellows with the opportunity to develop advanced expertise in the rapidly evolving field of diabetes technology. Fellows who elect to participate will receive immersive training in:
- Hybrid closed-loop automated insulin delivery (AID) systems
- Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)
- Continuous ketone monitoring
- Remote patient monitoring
- Digital diabetes technologies and data interpretation
- Integration of technology to deliver personalized, evidence-based diabetes care
Through dedicated clinical experiences, hands-on learning, quality improvement initiatives, and mentorship from faculty with expertise in diabetes technology, fellows will gain the skills needed to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into clinical practice and improve outcomes for people living with diabetes.
As diabetes care continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, the Abbott Fellowship in Advanced Diabetes Technologies prepares graduates to become leaders in technology-enabled diabetes care, innovation, education, and clinical practice.

"Beyond developing expertise in continuous glucose monitoring, automated insulin delivery systems, and emerging technologies, fellows learn how to translate innovation into real-world clinical practice through education, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The pathway prepares future endocrinologists not only to be technology experts, but also leaders and educators who will help shape how diabetes care is delivered for years to come."

UC San Diego Launches Bone Pathway Within Endocrinology Fellowship
The UC San Diego Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is pleased to announce the launch of the Bone Pathway, a specialized educational track within our ACGME-accredited Endocrinology Fellowship Program designed for fellows pursuing advanced training in osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
The Bone Pathway provides focused, longitudinal training that integrates specialized clinical care, bone density imaging, interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching, quality improvement, and scholarly activities. Fellows gain hands-on experience evaluating and managing patients with osteoporosis, rare bone diseases, and complex metabolic bone disorders while developing expertise in DXA interpretation, evidence-based treatment strategies, and patient education. Additional opportunities include participation in the Bone Health Interest Group, the UC San Diego Rare Bone Disease Symposium, national educational meetings, and quality improvement or research projects.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Danielle D'Annibale as the inaugural Bone Pathway Fellow.
"I chose the Bone Pathway to expand my clinical experience caring for patients with osteoporosis and rare bone diseases, while training under the mentorship of inspiring experts in bone health at UCSD. Through this pathway, I look forward to honing my skills in DXA interpretation, educating healthcare providers and patients on bone health, and advancing my quality improvement project on osteoporosis screening in patients with diabetes. I am confident that this specialized pathway will equip me with the clinical knowledge and experience to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases throughout my career."
